Wake up with a soft, even lip color that needs no liner — and, if your lips are naturally dark or uneven, a tone that finally looks balanced. Lip blush and lip neutralization at Cleopatra PMU are custom-mixed to your skin, applied with numbing, and last two to three years.
Lip blush vs. lip neutralization
Lip blush (lip coloring) deposits a sheer, natural tint through the whole lip and gently defines the border. It evens out patchy color, makes lips look fuller by restoring their edge, and heals to a soft “your lips but better” flush rather than a lipstick finish. You choose the shade — from barely-there nude to a warm rose.
Lip neutralization is for naturally dark, purple-toned or uneven lips, which are common in olive, Middle Eastern and deeper skin tones. Instead of a pink over dark, Dena first neutralizes the cool tone with warm corrective pigment, then builds the color you want on top — usually over two sessions. It’s a specialty at the studio that very few artists in Northern Virginia offer.
Both treatments use topical numbing throughout, single-use needles, and pigments chosen at your consultation to heal true to color.
Lip blush is a good fit if you
- Have pale, faded or uneven lip color and want it evened out without daily lipstick.
- Want a defined lip line that gives the look of fuller lips without filler.
- Have naturally dark or two-tone lips — ask about neutralization first, then color.
- Are 18+, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no active cold sores (if you get them, Dena will advise on prevention before your session).
What to expect at Cleopatra PMU
Consultation & shade
Free. Dena checks your natural lip tone, discusses the shade you want and whether neutralization is needed first. Bring inspiration photos.
Numbing & session
Lips are the most sensitive PMU area, so numbing goes on early and is reapplied. Plan on about two hours. Most clients say it’s far easier than expected.
Healing
Lips are bright and a little swollen for 2–3 days, then flake lightly. By week two the color looks pale — it blooms back over 4–6 weeks.
Touch-up
At 6–8 weeks Dena evens the color and adds depth. Neutralization clients usually build color at this visit.
Healed lips
Client results from the studio, shared with permission — including neutralization on naturally dark lips.
Pricing
- Lip coloring (lip blush) — first session $325.
- Lip neutralization — first session $375. Corrective warm pigment for dark or uneven lips; color is usually built at the touch-up.
- Touch-up — $175, booked 6–8 weeks later.
Prices shown are first-session prices. The follow-up touch-up, 6–8 weeks later, is booked and priced separately. Current specials and every service are on the pricing & specials page; booking is through Vagaro.
Lip blush questions, answered
Does lip blush hurt?
Lips are more sensitive than brows, so numbing is applied before and during the session. Most clients describe it as pressure and a tingling sensation and are surprised how manageable it is.
How long does lip blush last?
Two to three years, fading gradually. Sun, smoking and exfoliating lip products speed that up; a refresh restores the color.
Will my lips look like lipstick?
No. Lip blush heals to a sheer, natural tint — think stained lips rather than painted. If you want more intensity, that’s built up at the touch-up.
What is lip neutralization and do I need it?
If your lips are naturally dark, purplish or two-toned, putting pink pigment directly on top heals muddy. Neutralization first corrects the cool tone with warm pigment; then your chosen color goes on. Dena assesses this at the consultation.
I get cold sores — can I still get lip blush?
Yes, with precautions. The procedure can trigger an outbreak, so Dena will ask you to speak with your doctor about a preventive antiviral before and after your session.
Is the touch-up included?
The first session is $325 (or $375 for neutralization) and the touch-up at 6–8 weeks is $175. For neutralization the touch-up is where the final color is built, so plan on both.
